Improved employer experience
Improving the experience for new recruiters using Graduateland
Overview
As Lead Product Designer at Graduateland, I improved the employer experience to help recruiters get started and create job posts on the platform. The challenge was making onboarding and job posting easier to understand for first-time users.
The work focused on identifying key friction points in how recruiters accessed the platform, created accounts, and completed their first job post within the platform.

The problem
Client Consultants at Graduateland reported recurring issues with recruiters using the platform. Instead of focusing on advisory work, they often had to support recruiters with basic usability problems.
To better understand these challenges, I facilitated knowledge-sharing sessions with the consultants to capture the most common issues. This revealed that getting started on the platform, especially during the initial job post creation, was a key friction point. Many recruiters struggled to complete the first steps needed to begin using the platform effectively, so the goal was to simplify this experience and make it easier to get started.
Usability testing
To understand how new recruiters experienced the platform, I recruited participants from companies that matched the core user group and conducted usability testing sessions where they created an account and posted a job.
The sessions revealed that recruiters struggled to navigate the platform, interpret system feedback, and understand the impact of their actions, especially during the initial steps. The flow they went through during the sessions is illustrated in the overview below.
Insights
Based on usability testing and input from Client Consultants, I mapped the experience of new recruiters. The user journey below highlights how the experience varied across steps, while the key friction points are summarized here:
- Recruiters had difficulty accessing the employer side of the platform and distinguishing it from the candidate experience.
- Copywriting was unclear and did not explain the impact of key actions.
- The job post flow lacked a clear structure and made it difficult to understand what to do next.
- Interface components were outdated and required too many steps.
- The value of job exposure options and pricing plans was unclear.
The result
I redesigned the onboarding and job posting experience to address the key friction points identified during testing. The solution introduced clearer structure, improved guidance, and more intuitive interaction patterns across the flow.
The designs were validated through prototyping and stakeholder feedback. This established a strong foundation for improving the employer experience. Examples of the implemented improvements are shown in the screens below.
